Lt Col Nathan Maertens (2023)

Lt Col Maertens is an active-duty Aerospace Physiologist in the United States Air Force. He is currently serving as the Director of Operations for the 9 Physiological Support Squadron at Beale California. Their mission is to provide High Altitude Reconnaissance Mission Support for the U-2 by maintaining and suiting up pilots with high altitude pressure suits. Prior to this assignment Lt Col Maertens ran the United States Air Force’s Aerospace Physiology School House conducting aircrew physiology training, acceleration training, career field-centric training, and physiology research support. Lt Col Maertens’ academic interests include judgment and decision making, cognition, and human physiology in extreme environments. In his off time he enjoys hiking the mountains of California, exercising, reading, and family time.
